Imprinting Time: Take #2

Sooo, I know the scanned sketches of my entry for Imprinting Time on Architecture were lacking… I just scanned what I had, not worrying about the quality. I am now working on rendering the piece now. I plan on hand drafting the entry, rendering with watercolors. Go check out CEBRA_toons to see my inspiration and an idea of what I might create.

I am also considering submitting a photograph. Simple. Memorable. Just a door. But not just any door. This door tells a story, one that needs no words.

I used this image in my thesis presentation, “The Relevance of Historical Preservation”, my 5th year at Drury University. That was the best presentation I have ever done, not that I have done very many. But, I still reflect on that presentation often, especially when I yearn for inspiration and question my talent as a designer. Here are a few quotes from the presentation:

“When we build, let us think that we build forever. Let it not be for present delight, nor for present use alone, let it be such work as our descendants will
thank us for, and let us think, as we lay stone on stone, that a time is to come when those stones will be held sacred because our hands have touched them, and that men will say as they look upon the labor and wrought substance of them, ‘See? This our fathers did for us.’” -Ruskin

“Saving the remnants our ancestors have left us gives us responsibility for the future, a sense of community, and a knowledge of our past.” -Amanda (my thesis)

  1. […] me, titled “Looking Into the Past”. The photos speak really well about the topic “Imprinting Time on Architecture” for the competition I am entering in June. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do: Easter Egg […]
